TaskTrack is an academic task management application developed to explore end-to-end web architecture, full-stack data flow, and modern database integration.
Overview
TaskTrack began as a collaborative project among teammates preparing for Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions. To master Web Exploitation defenses, the team decided to construct a complete web application from the ground up to understand how clients issue requests, how backends handle sessions and validation, and how persistent data layers operate.
The task management domain provides an ideal foundation: straightforward business rules combined with production-essential patterns like authentication, role-based authorization, REST endpoints, and responsive client state.
Engineering Goals
- Full Data Lifecycle — Understanding how form submissions travel through HTTP requests, API routes, and database transactions.
- Session Security — Implementing cookie handling, session lifecycles, and credential protection.
- System Boundaries — Defining clean separations between frontend clients, REST controllers, and database models.
- Defensive Input Validation — Sanitizing parameters, preventing authorization bypasses, and structuring access permissions.
